January has been an exciting month at The Country House Company. Matthew Hallett joined as a Partner on the first heading our country house sales. Enquiries from London have been thick and fast: equally split between a move to the country for schools and for weekend homes.
The country house market is dependent on a strong London market and with global issues and the Eurozone crisis; London is seen as a safe haven with strong continued price rises predicted. Londoners armed with this equity are able to spend it in the country. People are seeking stability and a rural lifestyle in a village community, which can offer a haven from the turbulence of the past few years. Second home enquiries from London have already been high this January; we expect this trend to continue in 2012. We predict the schools factor will continue to drive sales in 2012. Families are expected to continue to seek out areas within the catchment areas of good state schools or move out of London in search of good private schools. The Hindhead tunnel has opened out much of east Sussex and Hampshire both as a viable weekend commute and a more permanent move to the country.
Kate Morton has also joined The Country House Company this month. Kate qualified in rural enterprise and land management two years ago and has been worked with us in property management, as well as farm education - an important part of promoting rural life and a valuable source of farm diversification. Kate is born and bred in Hampshire and a keen follower of country pursuits. “We are thrilled Kate has joined The Country House Company” said Partners Sue Crossley and Matthew Hallett “ Her management and farm diversification expertise will be invaluable in our market. Her local knowledge and infectious enthusiasm fit perfectly with the Firms ethos, we are delighted”.
“The Country House Company has gone from strength to strength over the past 15 years. “Hampshire and West Sussex have become synonymous with a move to the country. World class sailing and the protected environment of The South Downs are within an hour of the capital. Our focus is clear; we provide high quality service to country house clients, managing moves to the country. Whilst some companies have grown by becoming larger, we have retained our core principles of this people business. We are excited by the challenges and successes ahead in 2012 and our continued growth by becoming stronger. Our teams have experts in almost every aspect of country property. Kate is further evidence of our investment in our specialist market”
